Memoria celebrates the launch of its new charity partnership with the UK’s leading dementia research charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Founded in 2003, Memoria has become one of the UK’s leading private operators in the funeral industry, providing exceptional standards of service in beautiful settings, which includes cremation services, burials, and other interment options.
To kick-start their partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK, Memoria has donated over £100,000 to help fund the charity’s groundbreaking dementia research which seeks to make breakthroughs in the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure of this terrible condition.
Almost one million people in the UK are living with dementia, and over half of people in the UK know someone affected by the condition. Dementia is caused by physical diseases, and diseases can be cured. By supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK, Memoria hopes that it can increase awareness of dementia and help accelerate the charity’s efforts in finding a cure.
Our Light a Candle for a Loved One at Christmas memorial services marks the start our partnership and throughout the year we will be inviting the wider communities from our 11 sites across the UK to raise awareness and ensure that the vital work carried out by Alzheimer’s Research UK can continue at pace.
Jamieson Hodgson, Deputy CEO at Memoria, said:
Alzheimer’s Research UK continues to do groundbreaking work to allow us to tackle the diseases which cause dementia. This is a charity that we hold very close to our hearts as they are making a real difference to people’s lives.
We are delighted to have their support in holding our Light a Candle for a Loved One events which are important to each local community in giving bereaved families another chance to remember their family and friends that they have recently lost.
Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:
Dementia is the biggest health challenge we face and unless we act now, one in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime. But having the backing from organisations like Memoria takes us closer to finding the groundbreaking discoveries we so desperately need, so that one day, we will end the heartbreak of dementia.
We’re incredibly thankful to Memoria for their support of Alzheimer’s Research UK, and we look forward to seeing what the future of our partnership brings.
